My Inspirational Youth Journey started back in April when I sent my application off for a place on the course.
I had to produce a short video of myself which I had lots of fun doing! Out of all the other applicants I made it down to the last twenty five.
From there I attended an assessment day in London where I had to present a cut and colour to a panel of six judges. For me speaking in public is a huge deal as I've no experience with it, I was so nervous! I had three minutes to try and wow the judges to secure my place in the top ten. I wanted to do my best and show them what I'm capable of, for me most importantly I wanted to show my passion for the industry. Skills and technique can be progressed with the right attitude.
After a very long and anxious week of waiting to hear to back from them to see if I'd made it to the final ten, words couldn't describe my excitement and how happy I was to have made into the final team. I couldn't wait to go to London and work with the Tigi Creative Team for a week.
Throughout the week we covered session styling with Maria Kovacs, Akos Bodi, presentation skills with Mike Esa, creative cut and colouring and a casting day for choosing our models. On the very last day we did a photo shoot, I loved it, it was amazing. We all had one model each whose hair we dressed and then shot. Everything was so professional and it just gave me another view of the industry that I'd never seen before.
Seeing the creative team work in person is indescribable - they are all so amazing and it's so inspiring! All I can say is that every day was amazing and I learnt so much, not just in skills but also in confidence. By the end of the week we were all presenting as if we'd been doing it for ages.
I can't wait to go go back down to London on the 9th Nov which is where we'll be presenting and working on stage in front of an audience at Cafe De Paris. We've got to present a cut and colour. It's been an amazing journey so far!
